IGPA minutes 04/12/05

The meeting was called to order by acting president Tami Palin. There were 66 present. I greeted the members and guests. A motion was passed to approve the minutes. Rodney Poe gave the treasurer’s report. There is $4008.22 in the checking account, $625 in the Miss Lucy Bond, $50 in petty cash, for a total of $4683.22. Warren Jindrich gave an update on the water rights. He thinks it is worked out. He also mentioned that the dredging permits can be picked up at the Water Center down Front and Broadway. Larry Steele talked to the watermaster for the Boise Basin but was not at the meeting to give a report. He also talked about the question about double bonding for federal/state requirements. Lois Van Hoover has a suggestion for who we need to contact about this, Scott __________ (oops, I didn’t get his last name). We discussed buying the bumper stickers that were published in the newsletter. The motion was carried to buy 1000 of these. Rodney Poe will contact the person who produces these to get this arranged. Brian Goffin talked about the upcoming Rendezvous Day for the Meridian School District. This will be held on Friday, May 20, from 9 a.m. or so until mid afternoon. We need at least 12 volunteers to help with this, and the volunteers will be teaching the students how to pan for gold. The school also provides lunch for everyone who helps out. Please contact Brian Goffin if you are interested in helping with this. The raffle was held. The president’s drawing was won by Charlie Williams, so he will provide the treats for the May meeting.

The following people donated prizes for the raffle:

Dale Rawson Trowel, Dale Rawson Crevice tool, Mike Darlow Montana sapphires, Dale Rawson Polartec vest, Dale Rawson Red beryl and topaz crystals, Mike Darlow Garnets, Brian Goffin Boise Basin dirt (guaranteed to be ½ gram of gold in it), Loren Gray Data switchbox, Jesse Lieb Can coolers, Diana (sorry, I didn’t get your last name) Homemade crocheted bookmarks, Warren Jindrich Wooden disks for coasters, Bill Safety glasses, Dale Rawson trowel and crevice tool, Brian Goffin Miner pin.  The 50/50 drawing was held. Bill Garrett pocketed $42. Rob Forbes announced that the Nampa chapter of GPAA has moved its meeting place to Snake River Elementary School, 500 Stampede Drive, Nampa (at the site of the old rodeo grounds on Garrity). Their meeting is at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month.

The election was held, with the following results:

  • President Chuck Knapp

  • Vice-President Tami Palin

  • Treasurer Jesse Leib

  • Secretary Tiffany Leib

I failed to acknowledge the work that our outgoing treasurer, Rodney Poe, has done for the club. He has done an excellent job maintaining the club’s finances and has also been heavily involved in producing our club website. Sorry, Rodney!

I also mentioned that our yearly auction will be held at the May meeting. If you have any mining equipment or any white elephants around, please bring them to be sold. Baked goods are also very welcome! The spring litter pickup will be held this coming Saturday, April 16. We will meet at Daggett Creek on Highway 21 at 10 a.m., and then the club will buy breakfast for all the volunteers at Calamity Jayne’s in Idaho City immediately afterwards.

Respectfully submitted,

Tami Palin, Secretary (for the last time) and acting president.

I am also including a personal note from Al Palin, as his last message as outgoing president:
I really wish to thank the club for all they have allowed me to do as president and I appreciate the honor of them electing me for eight consecutive years and I still look forward to being a valuable member of the club. Thanks to everyone, and I’ll see you at a meeting in the future.
