August 2007 Meeting Minutes

Tami Palin called the meeting to order and welcomed guests.

Treasure’s report - $5483.00. There are more new membership dues that have not been deposited yet.

Old Business - Apologies for lack of newsletter last month. July outing at Silver City was well attended despite the heat and the death of Al Palin, former president and husband of our current president, Tami. Those who attended had a good time.

Tami thanked those who signed sympathy card and offered condolences after her husband’s death.

New Business - Karin Hunter of the Nampa chapter of the GPAA wants a combined outing with a potluck dinner. It was decided to have our monthly outing on Aug. 10th-12th at Miss Lucy again to check and see if there is sufficient water to hold the joint outing. Bob Oakes will check on fire prevention restrictions with the National Forest.

There were several concerns about memberships. There was a motion and a second to eliminate pro-rated, partial year memberships. Memberships will only be sold as full year and for the full amount. If someone wants to join the club after the end of September, he/she may join and pay the dues for the following calendar year and enjoy the benefits of club membership for the rest of the current year. The motion was passed.

There was also a motion and a second to discontinue providing new members with a free pan, snuffer bottle, etc.  This motion also passed.

Concern was expressed about non-members using the claims until they were challenged, then going down and purchasing a membership, after the fact, in Idaho City.

Anyone using the claims should have, in his/her possession, a current, valid membership card. If members encounter people using our claims, they should politely ask them to show such membership card. If they are unable to produce the card, they should be asked to cease all prospecting activity on the claim. The county sheriff in Idaho City can be contacted, should they refuse to comply.

A specific incidence of the above and other questionable mining practices was brought up and there was discussion on whether the parties in question should be ousted from the club. Tami will contact those in question and express the concerns and allow them to come to the September meeting to explain their side of the matter.

Questions about the rules governing guests of member using claims were discussed. Several different points and suggestions were brought up. These and others will be discussed in executive meeting and presented to the entire group at the next meeting.

Meeting was adjourned.

September Outing

This Saturday, September 8, will be the joint outing with the Nampa GPAA club. It will be held at the Miss Lucy claim. There will be a potluck at noon, with the clubs providing the main meal item (probably sandwich fixins) and drinks. Everyone should please bring some type of potluck items, such as a salad, side dish, or dessert. For those of you who would like to carpool/convoy to the outing, please meet in front of the McDonald's at the corner of Federal Way and Gowen road on Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. This group will be leaving at 8 a.m. to drive up there. If you're not sure how to get up there, joining up with this convoy would be a good idea!

If you have any questions, please contact either Tami at 384-0891 or Karin at 989-6740. We look forward to seeing you there!!

President’s Message

Hi everyone! Since we are having a combined outing with the Nampa GPAA chapter on September 8, there will be no outing the weekend following the meeting. Then, in October, we will do our semi-annual litter pickup along Highway 21. I look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting.

Tami Palin, President
