  1. I have done some prospecting in SC, panning in CA, but I plan on doing some of the same in ID this late spring around GPAA show time or later. Actually, I would like to look for specimen gold and have heard that the Boise Basin area has plenty of tailing piles. I could be wrong. Would like to hear from some experienced detectorists on this quest. BTW, which machine do you suggest for this? Fisher Gold Bug II, Garrett, Minelab, others?

I am wondering what permits or licences i need to pan in my area and if there are any regulations on the streams and rivers in my area. I just need a direction to go. I am shooting in the dark. Thanks

  18. Wow, the April meeting was a full house…and the refreshments provided were the best EVER! Many Kudo’s to those responsible. Man can live by bread(cookies) alone, but the women Loved the fresh veggies, fruits and chips ALSO provided. Yum.
As the weather struggles to become real Spring, I am so looking forward to heading for the hills! F or Gold! Actually, though, My neighbor found that he had gold underneath his house, right over by the old Fort Boise. When they were digging out the basement under his house in a big remodel, there was evidence of an ancient streambed. I saw it too, and grabbed a bucketful to pan. Anyway, while they were putting up the concrete block walls, they actually saw gold flakes! Go figure that they continued to cover it up!!! I really do need to pan that pail of dirt and see what is in it. Maybe with a good enough color in the pan, they might consider another remodel????

  19. Hello everyone,
I live in Eastern Idaho (Rigby) and I am new to gold panning. I am wondering if there is anyone out this way that would be up for showing me and a friend the ropes.
